Along with the United States Coast Guard that helped launch this foundation, the New Jersey State Police will also be taking part in this crackdown. The penalties for a BWI in New Jersey can include the following:
- A first offense can result in a 1 year boating license suspension, a 3 month driver’s license suspension, a fine between $250 and $400, as well as additional surcharges
- A second offense can result in jail time between 48 hours and 90 days, a boating license suspension for 2 years, a driver’s license suspension for 2 years, a fine between $500 and $1,000, and additional surcharges
