Clients sometimes come to me and ask where the closing is going to take place. The closing is just the signing of documents in order to effectuate a sale, so really it could take place at a number of different locations. Generally speaking, in the agreement of sale it provides for a term that the parties mutually agree upon a location. However, if the parties do not know at the outset of the agreement, the provision will be stated as to be determined.
Once the parties agree upon a mutual place, they should provide notice to all of the parties stating the date, time and place or location. Some customary places that a closing takes place are a bank, a title company’s office, the lender’s office, a real estate broker’s office, or the attorney’s office.
